History

In 1932, the first Bernina home sewing machine was unveiled. The zigzag was introduced in 1938 and the first free-arm zigzag in 1945 . The famed knee-activated presser foot lifter (I love this feature!) came about in 1963. Electronic foot control was introduced in 1971 and remained the best selling model for 11 years. 1986 saw the first computerized model for this company.

The novel, popular model of 1998 included Customized Pattern Selection software. In 2002, the World’s first sewing and embroidery computerized machine with Microsoft Windows operating system was produced. The Artista 730 made it’s debut in 2006. The Bernina Artista 730e can often be found at eBay.
