Janome, which is pronounced Ja-NO-me, means "eye of the snake" in Japanese. How did it get that name? The founder of this innovative company, a Japanese man named Yosaku Ose, developed a unique idea in the industry at that time. Ta da… a round metal bobbin system!

The round bobbin was introduced back in the early part of the last century, around 1920.  Up until then, the traditional long shuttle was used as the bobbin mechanism.  (With this tidbit of information, I'll never look at a bobbin in the same way again... I'll always thin snake eye! ).
