Look Mom – No Pins!

Sewing on heavy or bulky fabrics can make pinning fabric seams together difficult at best. Leather, vinyl, synthetic fur or suede, upholstery and quilted fabrics are examples of textiles that can test the nerves!

What to do?

Binder Clips Hold Heavy Fabrics

Several common items (no, they're not found in the fabric store), can easily serve as pin alternatives. You may very well have one or more of these on hand right now.

If not, just take a trip to the office supply store!

Grab a roll of cellophane tape while you’re there. Ordinary clothespins are another choice. And it’s a lot more fun to use clothespins for a sewing project than hanging laundry!

To hold seams securely together while you stitch, choose the tool of your choice. Clip or tape seams together... then start sewing.

Leave the binder clips, paper clips, or other fasteners in place until just before they reach the pressure foot. Then remove.

Voilá... no more struggling to force pins through thick, heavy fabrics!
